Rajendranagar court jails youth for 20 years

HYDERABAD: A special Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) court in Rajendranagar sentenced a youth to 20 years in prison for attempting to sexually assault a four-year-old girl.

According to Special Public Prosecutor Venkateshwar Reddy, the incident took place on June 30, 2019, under the limits of Rajendranagar police station.
The victim, daughter of a daily wage worker, was playing outside her house when the accused, Sandeep Kumar alias Shyam, then aged 20, allegedly took her into his house and attempted to sexually assault her.
Mother lodged complaint with police
After searching for her daughter for some time, the girl’s mother found the child inside the accused’s house. When questioned, the child narrated the incident to her mother.
With the help of local residents, the woman lodged a complaint at Rajendranagar police station. Police registered a case and filed a chargesheet before the court.
Following the trial, Special POCSO Court Judge T. Srinivas delivered the verdict on Tuesday and sentenced the accused to 20 years of imprisonment.
