Raja Singh addresses media over Rajamouli’s Hanuman comment during Varanasi film teaser event

HYDERABAD: Goshamahal MLA Raja Singh criticised filmmaker Rajamouli and urged Hindus not to watch his films. He questioned why comments were made about Hanuman during the promotion of the upcoming film Varanasi, starring Mahesh Babu.

Raja Singh asked whether such remarks were meant for publicity. He said Rajamouli repeatedly stated that he did not hold religious belief, yet continued to make films on Hindu deities and earned crores. “If he is truly an atheist, he should say it clearly,” he said.

Past remarks flagged

Raja Singh alleged that Rajamouli had in the past spoken similarly about Hindu gods. He warned that speaking wrongly about faith would invite consequences. “People should not watch films made by atheist directors,” he said in a video message.

He questioned the director further: “What is your plan? You are now making another film titled Varanasi with Mahesh Babu. Did you make these comments on Hanuman as part of the film’s promotion? Or are you genuinely an atheist? You should declare it. There is no mistake on his part; the problem lies with Hindus who fail to call out such directors. Why should Hindus watch films made by someone who has no belief in Hindu gods?”

Mentions Baahubali, earlier controversies

He referred to Baahubali, saying Rajamouli made Prabhas lift a Shiva linga and earned crores, and yet said he did not believe in Hindu gods. Raja Singh said this was not the first time the director had made such comments. “Earlier he mocked the 16,000 gopis of Lord Krishna as lovers. He had also tweeted that he did not like Rama’s story and that it was boring. Now he has commented on Hanuman,” he said.

Complaint filed

Raja Singh urged Hindus to file complaints against such filmmakers. “Only then will people understand the consequences of making comments against Hindu gods. Do not watch films made by those who insult our deities. Let us ban such individuals who hide behind atheism,” he said.

The remarks followed the release of the title-glimpse event of Rajamouli and Mahesh Babu’s film Varanasi, where the director’s comments on Hanuman triggered controversy. The Rashtriya Vanar Sena filed a police complaint against the director.
