Secunderabad idol vandalism: Raja Singh condemns police ‘brutality’ on protesters

Raja Singh condemns police action

Secunderabad: Telangana police action against the activists of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal who were holding protests against the desecration of a temple idol in Secunderabad on Saturday has sparked strong reactions from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders. While the state Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy alleged that the saffron party was stoking communal tensions between Hindus and Muslims.

BJP’s Gosha Mahal MLA Raja Singh has ‘strongly condemned the brutal and unjustified charge’ on Hindu activists who protested against the vandalism at the Muthyalamma temple last week.

Accusing the Congress government of doing ‘appeasement politics’, the BJP leader questioned by police resorted to lathi charge on ‘devotees’ who were demanding justice for the desecration of the idol. He said the government cannot silence the people who are fighting for justice.

“I strongly condemn the brutal and unjustified lathi charge on our Hindu brothers who were peacefully protesting at the sacred Matha Muthyallamma Temple in Secunderabad.

It is deeply disturbing that when our religious sentiments are attacked and idols desecrated, we are not even allowed to raise our voices in a peaceful manner,” Raja Singh tweeted.

Miffed with the Revanth Reddy government’s alleged inaction in preventing attacks on Hindu places of worship, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) had called for a state-wide protest on October 19, 2024.

Meanwhile Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister Capt N Uttam Kumar Reddy cautioned the people against the ‘BJP’s divisive politics.’ Addressing the gathering at Charminar on the occasion of 34th anniversary of Rajiv Gandhi Sadhbhavana Yatra, Reddy accused the BJP of indulging in creating differences among the people on communal lines while the Gandhi family has always tried to promote peace, unity and brotherhood.
