Raja Shekar Reddy

HYDERABAD:  The Telangana government has appointed retired Indian Revenue Service officer Raja Sekhar Reddy Lakkadi as chairman of the Telangana Pollution Control Board (TGPCB) for a three-year term with immediate effect.

The appointment was made through Government Order Ms No. 33 issued by the Environment, Forests, Science & Technology Department on September 7, 2026.

The government said it considered Lakkadi’s special knowledge and practical experience in environmental protection while making the appointment.

Appointment modifies 2024 board constitution

The order partially modifies the government’s March 7, 2024 order that constituted the TGPCB with the chief secretary as chairman and official and non-official members.

Under the latest notification, Lakkadi will serve as chairman for three years from the date of issue of the order. The remaining terms and conditions of the earlier order will continue to apply.

The notification was issued under Sections 4(1), 4(2) and 5 of the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974.

The order was issued by Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju. The Telangana government portal lists Jaju as the state’s chief secretary.

The appointment notification is to be published in an extraordinary issue of the Telangana Gazette dated September 7, 2026.

The Government of India Gazette records that Raja Sekhar Reddy Lakkadi, an IRS officer posted as a member of the Central Board of Direct Taxes, retired from government service on March 31, 2026.
