Kazipet rail manufacturing unit tops Railway Board chief’s SCR inspection
HYDERABAD: Railway Board Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Satish Kumar on Saturday inspected key railway infrastructure projects and facilities under the South Central Railway (SCR), including the under-construction Railway Manufacturing Unit (RMU) at Kazipet, Charlapalli Rail Terminal, Jangaon railway station and the Indian Railways Institute of Signal Engineering and Telecommunications (IRISET).
The Railway Board Chairman reviewed the progress of the ₹597.68-crore Railway Manufacturing Unit at Kazipet, which is being developed to manufacture and maintain modern rolling stock and next-generation railway coaches. He inspected the main shed, bogie shop, paint shop, wheel shop and testing shop, besides reviewing the progress of ongoing construction works.
Station redevelopment works reviewed
Satish Kumar also inspected redevelopment works under the Amrit Station Scheme at Kazipet and Jangaon railway stations. He reviewed passenger amenities and assessed the progress of station infrastructure upgrades.
During a rear-window inspection from Kazipet to Charlapalli, he examined track conditions and reviewed other operational aspects of the railway network.
Focus on KAVACH implementation
Later, the Railway Board Chairman visited IRISET and its Centre of Excellence, where he reviewed the implementation of KAVACH, the indigenous automatic train protection system. Officials briefed him on the system’s deployment across the Indian Railways network.
He later chaired a review meeting at Rail Nilayam, the headquarters of South Central Railway, to assess the progress of ongoing projects and operational initiatives across the zone.
