Telangana : Kajamma has eaten no rice for 42 years

Telangana : For 42 years, Doodékula Kajamma, 70, of Mythapur village in Raikal mandal of Jagtial district, has stayed away from rice after a remark by her parents following her marriage.
Kajamma was forcibly married when she was 28. However, she did not want to leave her parental home and go to her husband’s house despite repeated requests from her parents.
A remark from her parents changed her eating habits
Angered by her refusal, her parents scolded her, asking why she needed rice at home if she was not going to her in-laws’ house. The remark had a deep impact on Kajamma, who decided at that moment to stop eating rice.
She has continued with the decision ever since.
Peanuts and tea have become her daily diet
Kajamma still gets hungry, but she says she satisfies it by eating nearly 250g of peanuts with a little jaggery every day. She also drinks around 20 cups of tea a day.
According to the account, she consumes nearly a quintal of peanuts a year.
At 70, Kajamma is said to be in good health and continues to live at her parental home. The villagers continue to talk about her decision to give up rice after falling out with her parents.
Whether she will eventually give up the vow and eat rice again remains unknown.
