Rohit Vemula’s mother Radhika meets CM Revanth Reddy

Hyderabad:Radhika Vemula, mother of Rohit Vemula met Chief Minister Revath Reddy on Saturday seeking proper investigation regarding his son’s abetment to suicide case. On Friday in a late night update Telangana Director General of Police assured to reopen the Rohit Vemula case.

Cyberabad police who were investigating the Rohit Vemula abetment to suicide case on Friday, Telanagana submitted the final report to court requesting to close the case due to lake of evidence. The report claims that ‘Rohit is not a dalit and he is in constant fear that his caste identity might be revealed’. “This fear forced along with other factors him to commit suicide” said the report.

Radhika along with Dontha Prasanth and Shesu Chemuduguta who were expelled along with Rohit vemula in 2015 and the University of Hyderabad professors Bhangya Bhukya and Sowmya Dechamma, NSUI members and other UoH students gave a representation to the Chief Minister and asked for his intervention on Saturday.

CM Revanth says he will keep the promise

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy took to X(formerly twitter) and shared that Radhika Vemula mother of Rohith Vemula along with others met him. In the post, Revanth said that “Radhikamma asked for proper justice and investigation to be done in regards his son’s suicide case. Eight years ago, Rohith Vemula died by suicide in Hyderabad Central University and this incident has disturbed me a lot. At that time, Rahul Gandhi had also personally visited the Hyderabad Central University and promised his support for the family. And we will keep that promise.”

It is pertinent to note that on Jan 17, 2016 Rohith Vemula was found dead hanging from a fan in a room at NRS hostel of University of Hyderabad. Dontha Prasanth who was a PHD student then filed a complaint with Gachibowli police alleging that the cause of death of Vemula Rohith was due to harassment and the atrocities of Prof. Podile Apparao former vice-chancellor of University of Hyderabad, Bandaru Dattatreya, (former Member of Parliament, Secunderabad), former BJP MLC, N. Ramchandra Rao, ABVP leaders Krishna Chaitanya, Nandanam Susheel Kumar and Nandanam Diwakar. Gachibowli police registered a case under section 306 (abetment to suicide) and SC/ ST atrocity Act and further investigation.
