Traffic enforcement in Rachakonda: Over 27 lakh challans issued in 2025

HYDERABAD: The Rachakonda Traffic Police enforced traffic rules rigorously in 2025, issuing over 27 lakh challans for various violations. The main focus was on helmetless riding and speeding, according to the Commissionerate’s Annual Report.
Rachakonda commissionerate covers 5,122 sq. km, including key stretches of the Outer Ring Road (61 km) and several national and state highways.
Rachakonda Traffic Police data shows helmetless riding topped the list with 19,21,882 challans, followed by driving without a license with 1,45,616 challans and wrong side driving with 1,61,648 challans.
Meanwhile, other violations included signal jumping (76,826 challans), overspeeding (37,005 challans), triple riding (56,265 challans), and drunken driving (17,760 cases). These led to 16 imprisonments and court fines of nearly ₹3.89 crore. There were also 5,821 driving license suspensions.
Furthermore, Contact, or on-the-spot, challans accounted for 5,52,496 cases. Non-contact, or e-challans, totaled 22,36,730.
Total road accidents increased from 3,207 in 2024 to 3,488 in 2025. Fatal accidents declined slightly from 624 to 62. Fatalities increased from 653 to 659. The number of injured persons rose from 3,003 to 3,219.
ORR accidents
A particular area of concern was the Outer Ring Road (ORR), which saw a significant rise in accidents. Total ORR accidents increased from 52 to 76. Fatal accidents on the ORR rose from 19 to 22. Deaths on the ORR increased from 21 to 37.
Alongside enforcement, the Traffic Police invested in preventive education. They conducted 4,269 traffic awareness programs across the commissionerate, reaching about 3.67 lakh citizens. Initiatives included the Children’s Traffic Training Park and helmet distribution drives.
The report indicates that Rachakonda Traffic Police adopted a two-pronged strategy of strict enforcement and continuous public education to improve road discipline. The high number of challans reflects a zero-tolerance approach to traffic violations, especially those that endanger lives, such as drunken driving and riding without helmets.
