Rachakonda SHE Teams arrest 203 accused for harassing women, including 65 minors

Hyderabad: The Rachakonda SHE Teams have apprehended a total of 203 individuals, including 138 adults and 65 minors, for harassing women and youth within the commissionerate limits over March. This was announced by Rachakonda Commissioner of Police G. Sudheer Babu, who reiterated that the SHE Teams will not spare anyone found guilty of harassing women or girls. He also urged women to come forward and file complaints without fear.
The SHE Teams have been conducting decoy operations at various locations such as bus stations, railway stations, metro stations, schools, colleges, vegetable markets, and other public spaces, specifically targeting offenders who engage in stalking or harassing women. These individuals are apprehended with evidence, and the cases are presented in court. Additionally, accused undergo counseling in the presence of their families to help them understand the consequences of their actions.
As part of the Rachakonda Women’s Safety Wing, counseling sessions were held at the Rachakonda Camp Office, where accused were given the opportunity to reflect on their behaviour. Between March 1 and 31, the SHE Teams received 249 complaints of harassment. Of these, 30 complaints were related to phone harassment, 87 involved harassment through social media apps, and 132 were cases of direct harassment. In total, 14 criminal cases were registered, 84 petty cases were handled, and counseling was provided to 116 individuals, according to DCP T. Usharani of the Women’s Safety Wing.
Several significant cases were handled by the SHE Teams over the past month. In one instance, a female student from an engineering college reported that an accused, who lived in her neighborhood, had developed a friendship with her and was constantly pressuring her for affection. When she refused, the accused threatened to morph her photos and send them to everyone, as well as cause a scene at her college. The victim approached the SHE Teams, and a criminal case was filed. The accused was arrested and sent to jail.
In another case, a woman complained about receiving obscene phone calls from an unknown person in the middle of the night, which led her husband to suspect her and seek a divorce. The SHE Teams tracked the calls through call data, identified the accused, and arrested him.
A third case involved the sexual harassment of a married woman working at a supermarket. The accused repeatedly visited the store and pressured her for sexual favors. When she refused, he followed her home and made lewd comments. The victim approached the SHE Teams, resulting in the accused’s arrest after a criminal case was filed.
In a separate incident, a woman employee was molested by an unknown person on a motorcycle as she was walking home after work. The SHE Teams traced the vehicle’s number plate and apprehended the accused, who was subsequently arrested.
Additionally, the SHE Teams responded to a tip-off about a youth causing a nuisance at a bus stand. The youth was apprehended and a case was registered against him at the police station.
Throughout the month of March, the SHE Teams conducted 106 awareness programs across the Rachakonda region, educating nearly 22,620 people on women’s rights, safety measures, and laws related to crimes against women.
The SHE Teams also conducted decoy operations in metro trains, where they apprehended 13 men who were traveling in women’s compartments. These offenders were fined by the metro authorities for violating the rules.
Women facing harassment are encouraged to immediately report the incidents via the SHE Teams’ WhatsApp number at 8712662111. Additionally, they can contact officers in the following areas: Bhongir at 8712662598, Choutuppal at 8712662599, Ibrahimpatnam at 8712662600, Kushaiguda at 8712662601, LB Nagar at 8712662602, Malkajgiri at 8712662603, and Vanasthalipuram at 8712662604.
