Hyderabad: Rachakonda SHE Teams arrested 187 individuals, including 122 adults and 65 minors, for various offenses related to harassment of women and girls in the month of February 2025.
The arrests came after the SHE Teams received a total of 241 complaints, including 28 cases of phone harassment, 85 related to social media abuse, and 128 direct harassment incidents. These actions are part of ongoing efforts to ensure the safety and security of women and girls across the Rachakonda Commissionerate.
Rachakonda Commissioner of Police, G. Sudheer Babu, IPS, has highlighted that women should report harassment without fear, promising swift and decisive action against offenders.
The SHE Teams have conducted several decoy operations in public places like bus stands, railway stations, metro stations, schools, colleges, and markets. These operations have helped apprehend individuals who stalk or harass women, with strong evidence being gathered to ensure successful prosecution.
Additionally, those arrested are being counseled in the presence of their families, as part of the Rachakonda Women’s Safety Wing’s broader approach to both law enforcement and preventive action.
A counseling session for those arrested was held today, March 13, 2025, at the Rachakonda camp office, where 108 individuals received counseling. The session, attended by family members of the accused, was held at the LB Nagar CP Camp office. The Women’s Safety Wing continues to focus on both protecting women and educating the public on their legal rights.
Among the significant cases handled, one involved a woman who was deceived by a man she met at her workplace. He convinced her that he loved her and promised to marry her, leading to several physical encounters. When she requested marriage, his family rejected the proposal, and he blocked her phone. After realizing she had been deceived, she reported the case to the SHE Team. The accused was arrested, and a criminal case was filed.
In another case, a young woman working for a major software company reported that a colleague repeatedly harassed her, calling from different phone numbers and insisting that he loved her and wanted to marry her. Despite her disinterest, the man persisted. After her complaint, he was arrested and jailed by the SHE Teams.
A third notable case involved a woman who faced harassment from a man in her locality. He made repeated obscene phone calls, and when she stopped answering, he began threatening her. The woman filed a complaint, and the accused was arrested, with a criminal case filed against him.
Alongside enforcement actions, the SHE Teams conducted 98 awareness programs in the last month, reaching approximately 17,970 people to educate them about women’s safety laws, rights, and precautionary measures.
Additionally, the SHE Teams carried out decoy operations on metro trains, where they apprehended 12 men traveling in women’s compartments. These individuals were handed over to metro station authorities for further action.
