HYDERABAD:Rachakonda Police have begun using rowdy-sheeters in supervised community service to curb fresh offences and track their movements. The initiative includes placing selected offenders on traffic control duties at major junctions.

Sixty offenders deployed at key junctions

Police said 60 rowdy-sheeters participated in traffic regulation on Wednesday. Twenty each were assigned at Kushaiguda, Uppal and LB Nagar police station limits. They helped manage traffic and advised motorists on road safety.

Officers maintain regular surveillance on rowdy-sheeters to ensure they are not involved in new offences and to verify their presence at home. Officials said the new initiative is aimed at reinforcing good conduct among those who have stayed away from crime for a period.

More will be included in the programme

“Some rowdy-sheeters under police watch will also be added to this reform initiative. Our aim is to help them change and contribute to a better society,” Rachakonda Police Commissioner Sudheer Babu said.
