LB Nagar: LB nagar police of Rachakonda commissionerate booked a case against a Telangana journalist for allegedly posting ‘false information’ regarding power shortages in LB nagar area on social media, ‘defaming’ the state government.
According to the complaint from the assistant engineer working in Saroornagar Division of TGSPDCL M Dileep, “A social media user with username @revathitweets posted a message in X(formerly twitter) that seven hours power was interrupted in LB Nagar Area. After analyzing the official TGSPDCL data sheets of substations for the last Six months, it is noticed that there is no power interruption of seven hours in LB Nagar Area in the last analyzed period.”
Complainant further stated that “It is merely a false allegation and intentionally defaming the state government and their organization TGSPDCL”.
Subsequently he requested to take necessary action against Twitter(X) account holder @revathitweets who is ‘intentionally’ spreading ‘false propaganda’ against the state government and their organization and making it viral in social media by creating an incident that did not happen.
LB nagar police booked a case under section 505 IPC(Statements conducing to public mischief) & Sec 66 (D) of IT ACT and further investigation is underway.
In her post which went viral received, which 3.2K likes and 1.2K retweets, she detailed a harrowing experiences of a woman who shared the details with her that “A woman from LB Nagar, #Hyderabad was terrorized by an unexpected incident today. Tired of the frequent power cuts, she tweeted about the incident and a lineman drops at her residence and demands her to delete the tweet. She called the electricity department and told them about this. Requested them not to send them such people to threaten her. The official then tells her that she should call them and not tweet about it because THERE IS TOO MUCH PRESSURE ON THE ELECTRICITY DEPARTMENT FROM THE ‘PEOPLE ABOVE’. I cross checked the incident…there is a recording of the incident but the woman didn’t want me to share it here because she fears for her safety! Even when I spoke with her, she said that she is already worried since she lives in a rented accommodation and the #TGSPDCL already knows her address(sic)”.
She further tweeted “I hope the department & the minister in-charge understands that this is harassment. The woman raised a complaint only after suffering many times. Prior to this incident they had a 7hr power cut apparently. AND please understand that in the age of social media- people will complain on social media! Asking them not to speak because of your inadequacies is NOT right. SENDING A PERSON HOME TO DEMAND DELETING THE SOCIAL MEDIA POST IS HARASSMENT! Kindly focus on the solution NOT coverups(sic)”
