R.v. Karnan Behind Statewide Food Safety Raids Takes Charge As Ghmc Commissioner

Hyderabad: R.V. Karnan took charge as the new Commissioner of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) on Tuesday morning, April 29, 2025.

Prior to this appointment, R.V. Karnan served as the Director of the State Health and Family Welfare Department, where he led numerous raids across the state on food establishments that violated hygiene standards and worked to raise public awareness on food safety.

R.V. Karnan’s appointment follows a recent reshuffle of IAS officers by the Telangana government. He succeeded K. Ilambarithi, who has been transferred to the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) as the Secretary of the Area Urban Development Authority (AUDA).

During his tenure as GHMC Commissioner, Ilambarithi initiated several urban development projects, expanded infrastructure, and worked on improving public services. On the occasion of the handover, GHMC officials and employees wished both the new Commissioner and K. Ilambarithi success in their respective roles.
