Qutbullapur road widening delayed due to GHMC compensation disputes

HYDERABAD: Road widening works in Qutbullapur village have been delayed for years due to compensation disputes. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) had issued notices to property owners, promising compensation for land and houses falling within the road expansion zone. However, some residents approached the court, arguing that the compensation was inadequate, forcing officials to halt the project.

The road in question connects Qutbullapur with Suchitra Junction via Jeedimetla. It was originally built as a 30-foot stretch during the municipal body’s tenure. Over the years, traffic has increased significantly, with heavy movement between Medchal, Suchitra Junction, Jeedimetla, Balanagar, Gandhinagar, and Kukatpally industrial areas. Frequent traffic jams have left commuters frustrated.

To ease congestion, authorities had included the stretch under the Comprehensive Road Maintenance Programme (CRMP). Seven years ago, proposals were drawn up to widen it into an 80-foot road at an estimated cost of ₹1.5 crore. However, after surveys showed that many houses and sites would be affected, officials decided to restrict the expansion to 60 feet.

The widening plan required acquisition of 105 properties, including 97 private holdings, three government buildings, one religious structure, four sites under court litigation, and eight vacant plots. The GHMC allocated around ₹3 crore towards compensation. But with several owners challenging the amount in court, the works remain stalled.

Local residents are urging officials to provide fair compensation and expedite the road widening. “We have been waiting for years. Authorities should resolve the disputes quickly and restart the project,” they said.
