Pyaranagar residents Protest Against Proposed Dump Yard Project

Hyderabad: The locals of Pyaranagar and Nallavalli have intensified their protest against the Pyaranagar dumping yard on Thursday. Following a call from the Joint Action Committee (JAC), businesses and commercial establishments in both villages in Sangareddy district and Narsapur town in Medak district are observing a voluntary shutdown to register their protest.

A few youngsters climbed atop a cell tower to demand the release of who were detained after the clashes with the police on Wednesday. They also demanded the immediate cancellation of the dumping yard project, claiming it will not only lead to severe environmental pollution but also pose serious health risks to the local population of nearly 10 villages. Former minister and BRS MLA V Suntiha Lakshma Reddy was also detained for extending her support to the villagers.

Expressing their solidarity with the villagers, the local BJP leaders attempted to stage a protest at the Gummadidala municipality office but were stopped by the police. Several party members were detained and taken to the police station.

Meanwhile, BRS legislators Suntiha Lakshma Reddy and Chinta Prabhakar will meet Sangareddy Collector Valluru Kranthi and submit a memorandum to her to demand the government to withdraw this project.

Earlier, the GHMC had identified three landfill sites in Lakdaram, (Medak district), Khanapur (Rangareddy district) and Pyaranagar (Sangareddy district). The revenue department has handed over 150 acres of land to the civic body to dump its ever burgeoning waste.

Currently, the Telangana state capital generates around 7,500 metric tonnes of garbage and it is dumped at Jawaharnagar site. Trying to address the concerns of the villagers, the GHMC officials said that they would use European technology to treat the waste in an eco-friendly manner at the landfill site.
