Hyderabad : Double Olympic medallist PV Sindhu stormed into her maiden Japan Open Super 750 final on Saturday after China’s Chen Yufei retired with a hamstring injury during their women’s singles semi-final. Sindhu was leading 21-19, 15-10 when the fourth seed conceded the match after 44 minutes.

First win over Chen in seven years

Sindhu delivered a commanding performance to register her first victory over Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion Chen Yufei in seven years. The result also secured her first appearance in a BWF World Tour final since the Syed Modi International in 2024.

World Championships boost ahead of title clash

The former world champion appears to be peaking at the right time, with the BWF World Championships less than a month away. Sindhu will now take on reigning world champion Akane Yamaguchi in Sunday’s final.

The title clash will be played on Yamaguchi’s home soil. Sindhu holds a narrow 15-14 head-to-head advantage over the Japanese star, setting up an evenly matched contest for the Super 750 crown.
