Pushpa 2 stampede victim Sritej leaves hospital, sifted to neurorehab center

Hyderabad: After nearly five months of intensive treatment nine-year-old Sritej, who was seriously injured in a Sandhya Theatre stampede, has been discharged from KIMS Cuddles hospital, Secunderabad on Tuesday.

Sharing a health update, the doctors at KIMS Cuddles said, “Sritej is being discharged to a Neurorehabilitation Center for continued neurorehab services. He is taking oral feeds and is not needing any oxygen or respiratory support.”

According to Sritej’s family, he was moved out of the ICU to a regular room 15 days ago as he started showing some signs of responsiveness but he has not yet regained full brain function or the ability to recognise us.

The young boy continues to be on a liquid diet which is being administered through a feeding pipe. Doctors have advised that shifting him to a rehabilitation center could help in further recovery. He is expected to spend at least 15 days in the rehab for physiotherapy and neurological recovery before returning home.

The boy’s family expressed their gratitude to the Pushpa 2 team, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, and the medical team for their consistent support throughout his hospital stay.

“Right from the day of hospitalisation, we’ve had all the support we needed. The hospital staff and KIMS management never demanded any money, even at the time of discharge,” Sritej’s father told reporters.

The tragic stampede at Sandhya Theatre incident occurred on December 4, 2024, when a large crowd gathered to see Pushpa 2 actor Allu Arjun at the premiere, leading to overcrowding in the theatre’s lower balcony.

Revathi, mother of Sritej, died due to suffocation while he was admitted to hospital in a critical condition. Later, Revathi’s husband, Magudampalli Bhaskar, filed a complaint, alleging that the stampede was caused by the actor’s arrival and the theatre’s lack of crowd control.
