Purported call of man trapped in Nampally showroom fire surfaces
HYDERABAD: A purported phone conversation of a man who died in the recent fire at a furniture showroom in Nampally has surfaced, in which he is heard pleading for help as the blaze broke out.
In the audio clip, Imtiaz, a driver associated with the showroom, is heard telling someone outside that he was unable to escape. “All three of us, including two children, will die. There is no exit here,” he said, seeking immediate rescue.
On the day of the incident, Imtiaz and others were trapped in one of the building’s cellars as flames spread through the four-storey structure. While the person on the other end of the call advised him to move to the second cellar, Imtiaz said he could not find a way out. Sounds of children gasping for breath can also be heard in the recording.
A police official said the audio had come to their notice, but its authenticity was yet to be verified.
Five people, including two children and an elderly woman, died of asphyxiation after the fire broke out on January 24 at the furniture shop building in Nampally.
Meanwhile, the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency said on X that fire safety inspections continued for a second day. The drive led to the sealing of six furniture shops across the city for safety violations by the agency, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, the fire department and other authorities.
