Hyderabad: The Drugs Control Administration (DCA) of Telangana has introduced a new feature on its ODLS Portal to help verify the authenticity of drug licenses held by wholesalers, distributors, and retail medical shops or pharmacies in the state.

As part of this initiative, retail pharmacies must now verify the validity of drug licenses held by wholesalers or distributors before purchasing medicines. Similarly, wholesalers are required to confirm the legitimacy of the licenses held by retail pharmacies before supplying drugs.

This verification process aims to ensure the integrity of the medicine supply chain and prevent counterfeit drugs from entering the market. The ODLS Portal’s “Third-Party Verification” feature allows the public, retailers, and wholesalers to confirm whether a medical shop or pharmacy holds a valid license issued by the DCA, Telangana.

Under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, stocking and selling drugs without a valid drug license is a punishable offense. This verification system helps in addressing issues related to counterfeit medicines and unauthorized drug distribution, which are often linked to fake licenses.

The public is urged to purchase medicines only from licensed medical shops and pharmacies, as medicines from unlicensed sources may be counterfeit or harmful. Consumers can use the “Third-Party Verification” tool on the ODLS Portal to check the licensing status of any medical shop or pharmacy. The website allows users to search for a medical shop or distributor by name and check the status of their drug license.
