Protests erupts at the GHMC Council meeting by BRS and BJP leaders

Hyderabad : The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) corporators staged a protest at the 9th general council meeting of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) on Saturday at its headquarters.
The BRS and BJP leaders protest demanding the resignation of the GHMC Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi. Vijayalakshmi was also earlier a member of the BRS party, however, she has shifted her loyalty to the Indian National Congress, following the electoral win of the party in the last held Assembly elections.
As the General council meeting begins with the Mayor’s speech, the BRS and the BJP leaders, the sitting corporators have held placards and walked towards the podium, according to the sources. The leaders further raised slogans and obstructed the meeting from being held. Following which, the Mayor adjourned the meeting for 15 minutes. And for various disturbances, the meeting was adjourned more than four times.
Following the restart, the Council members have maintained two minutes of silence for the public representatives who have lost life in unfortunate circumstances. Some of them include, SCB former MLA Lasya Nanditha, Former Corporator Sabeena Begam, former Rajya Sabha member, D Srinivas.
Meanwhile, the GHMC Mayor, Vijayalakshmi sought for the co-ordination of both the public representatives and the GHMC officials for the attaining better solutions for the problems being faced in the city.
GHMC Commissioner, Amrapali says ready with her team
The newly appointed GHMC Commissioner, Amrapali said that she is ready with her team and said that the members are also now aware about the problems in the limits of GHMC. She further added that they would focus on creating solutions to these problems, especially focusing on the issues that are frequently raised in the Rainy season. Further, arrangements are also in swing, in connection with the celebrations of the Bonalu and Muharram festivals in the city limits.
