SANGAREDDY: A pregnant tribal woman was forced to walk nearly 2 km on a muddy road to reach an ambulance after rains rendered her remote village inaccessible in Kangti mandal of Sangareddy district on Wednesday.

The road connecting Vachyu Nayakthanda to the Kangti–Pitlam road had turned slushy following continuous rains over the past two months. When Nikitha Bhai, a resident of the thanda, developed labour pains, her family called the 108 ambulance service. However, the ambulance could not enter the village due to the poor road condition.

Nikitha Bhai walked about 1.5 km through the mud before she could board the vehicle. She was then taken to the area hospital at Kangti, where she delivered a healthy baby boy. Both the mother and child are reported to be in good health.

Villagers said that officials and elected representatives had ignored repeated requests to build a proper road to the tribal hamlet. They urged the district administration to take immediate steps to lay a pucca road to ensure emergency access to the area.
