Pregnant doctor dies in Warangal tipper accident

WARANGAL: A nine-month pregnant doctor was killed in a road accident after a speeding tipper rammed into a two-wheeler on Hunter Road in Warangal on Monday evening.
The deceased was identified as Sali Mamata Rani, 33, an assistant professor at Father of Colombo Medical College, police said. She was travelling on a two-wheeler with her husband, Sali Raghavendra, when the accident occurred.
According to Mattewada Circle Inspector Karunakar Rao, the couple was returning home to Kothawada after finishing duties. While they were proceeding from Edumorilu Junction towards Pothananagar, a tipper coming from behind at high speed hit their vehicle.
Raghavendra sustained minor injuries, while Mamata Rani suffered severe injuries. Locals rushed them to a private hospital in Warangal, where she died during treatment late on Monday night.
Police said rash and negligent driving by the tipper driver was the cause of the accident. Raghavendra lodged a complaint seeking action against the driver.
The couple hails from Makthal in Mahbubnagar district. Raghavendra is currently pursuing postgraduate studies in orthopaedics at Kakatiya Medical College.
