Toddler injured after bike skids on debris-strewn road in Pragathi Nagar

Pragathi Nagar Road Accident

HYDERABAD: A toddler suffered injuries in Vasavi Layout, Pragathi Nagar, after a motorcycle skidded and fell on a road covered with debris and sand. Social activist Sai Teja says the crash was preventable. He blames Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) officials for ignoring his repeated complaints about the hazardous road conditions.

Speaking to HyderabadMail, Sai Teja explains that the problem started when the electricity department cut tree branches but left them on the road. Subsequently, he filed a formal complaint about the debris, but no one removed it. In addition, he adds that sanitation workers from CMC never swept the road. As a result, loose sand and debris made the area especially dangerous for motorcyclists and scooter riders.

Last Saturday, a parent riding a motorcycle with a toddler skidded and fell on the unswept road. The child was injured. Notably, Sai Teja says he warned officials before the crash, but nobody responded in time. Furthermore, he reports a second recent incident where a motorcyclist skidded but did not fall. “Motorcycles skid on sand,” he said, blaming the unswept road for both incidents.

Sai Teja says he did everything he could to fix the problem. For instance, he filed a formal complaint with CMC and shared the complaint ID with officials. However, no one has swept the road or cleared the branches. “It was a major safety issue. We put in all the effort we could, but we couldn’t do more,” said Teja.

He also highlighted the issue on social media with the hashtag #RoadSafety. He tagged CMC officials and warned that the hazard remains, even after the child’s injury. Nearly a week after the crash, the road in Vasavi Layout, Pragathi Nagar, remains unsafe. Consequently, the branches and sand still pose a risk to all commuters, especially motorcyclists riding with children.
