Pothole Related Accidents Raise Concerns Among Pragathi Nagar Residents

Hyderabad: Residents of Pragathi Nagar in Nizampet are expressing serious concerns over the increasing number of accidents caused by potholes and uncovered trenches left open after roadworks. Locals are urging the Nizampet Municipal Corporation to take immediate action to prevent further injuries.

Recently, a woman was injured near Neelima Natural Foods after falling due to a pothole. Speaking to Hyderabad Mail, her husband said the situation could have been much worse, as there was an open trench nearby. He called on the authorities to urgently repair the roads and pointed out that the uncovered water trench poses an ongoing threat to public safety.

Sai Teja, a local resident and road safety volunteer, criticized the lack of proper safety measures during roadwork. “It’s disturbing to see people getting hurt because of potholes. The authorities are digging roads without placing proper barricades, and they are installing concrete speed breakers without following scientific guidelines,” he said.

He also noted that a previous complaint on the issue led to only temporary fixes. “Some work was done, but it felt more like an eyewash than a real solution. Nizampet is one of the highest revenue-generating municipalities. If services continue to be this poor, it directly affects people’s lives. When the injured person is the family’s main breadwinner, it impacts their entire livelihood.”

Sai Teja went on to say that similar incidents are becoming increasingly common. “The combination of potholes and open trenches is extremely dangerous. The woman who recently fell was lucky to escape with minor injuries. What if the outcome had been worse? Who would be held responsible?”

He urged the authorities, including the Chief Minister, who also heads the Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MAUD) department, to take strict action against officials who are neglecting public safety. “Officials are turning a blind eye to these hazards. Immediate intervention is essential to prevent more accidents and ensure the safety of commuters.”

Residents are now hoping that the Nizampet Municipal Corporation will act swiftly to repair the damaged roads and cover all open trenches before more people are injured.
