Box Office alert: Prabhas’s Kalki 2898 AD reaches Rs 1000 crore mark

HYDERABAD: Blockbuster movie Kalki 2898 AD reaches Rs 1000 crore globally, joins elite club. With Kalki 2898 AD, Prabhas has two films in the Rs 1000 crore global club, after Baahubali 2 in 2017 under his belt. Despite competition from Indian 2 in the South and Sarfira in the North, Kalki 2898 AD continues performing strongly at the box office. The film netted Rs 5.2 crore in India on day 16, bringing its domestic lifetime collections to Rs 548 crore. It is expected to surpass Animal’s domestic lifetime collections of Rs 553 crore by Sunday.
Strong performance despite competition
Telugu version of Kalki has made Rs 255 crore in 16 days. While the Hindi version has collected Rs 236 crore. Telugu version collected Rs 1.4 crore on the sixteenth day. From the release of Shankar directorial Bharateeyudu 2, the competition increased for Telugu and Tamil versions. This movie earned Rs 26 crore on its opening day, with Rs 7.9 crore coming from its own Telugu version.

Kalki 2898 AD features Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, and Kamal Haasan in main roles. From the beginning, the film is expected to start a franchise, with a sequel already in development. Director Nag Ashwin has mentioned that around 20 days of filming for the sequel have already taken place, though no release date has been announced yet.
Amitabh Bachchan tweeted out his joy on X (formerly Twitter) after the film surpassed the lifetime box office collections of Pathaan in India. He posted on X, “The great joy of being a part of this magnum opus that crosses 1000 cr WW.”

Kalki 2898 AD has become the biggest hit of 2024, outperforming films like Fighter, which made nearly Rs 200 crore. On July 10, Kalki surpassed the worldwide collections of Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal, although it is yet to surpass its domestic total. At present Kalki 2898 AD stands seventh in the list of all-time highest-grossings of Indian movies. The Nag Ashwin directorial is set to surpass Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan (Rs 1,050 crore) and Jawan (Rs 1,150 crore) in the coming days, positioning itself among the top five highest-grossers.
