Ponnam Prabhakar says voters back Congress governance in Jubilee Hills

HYDERABAD: Congress leader Ponnam Prabhakar on Thursday said voters in the Jubilee Hills bypoll are supporting the party because they want development and trust the government’s welfare programmes.
Voters seek constituency development, says Prabhakar
He said residents had chosen Congress in the Cantonment bypoll for similar reasons and added that attempts to use sympathy or diversionary politics did not influence voters. “They tried to use sentiment to mislead women voters, but people supported Congress because of governance,” he said.
Prabhakar listed the government’s ongoing schemes, including fine rice distribution, ration card delivery, 200 units of free power, interest-free loans for women, free travel for women in Telangana State Road Transport Corporation buses, Indiramma housing and recruitment drives. He said decisions taken for farmers in rural areas showed the government’s commitment despite financial strain.
BRS ‘disinformation’ will be countered, says Congress
He said the party would work harder at the grassroots level in response to what he described as disinformation by the Bharat Rashtra Samithi.
According to him, the opposition accused the ruling party of rigging out of frustration. He alleged that opposition workers attempted to attack the Congress office. “Statements like ‘We will see you’ are shocking,” he said.
Congress alleges opposition presence near booths
Prabhakar alleged that police booked Congress workers while “many outsiders” of the opposition were present near polling locations. He claimed a Secunderabad corporator was giving media bites from the spot.
He said voters in both Cantonment and Jubilee Hills backed Congress because they wanted development, and added that the party was confident of winning with a good majority.
Kishan Reddy ‘helped’ BRS, alleges Congress leader
Prabhakar repeated his claim that the Bharatiya Janata Party would not cross 10,000 votes. He accused Union minister and Hyderabad MP Kishan Reddy of cooperating with BRS, calling it a “guru dakshina” for the party’s support during the parliamentary elections.
He said the “friendship in Delhi’s corridors has now turned into friendship on the street”. He added that cooperation for Telangana’s progress was welcome, otherwise “the people of Telangana may soon lock your office”.
