POCSO special court convicts a sexual assault accused
Hyderabad: A 45 year old, who abused a six year old girl was convicted by a Special court dealing with the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences(POCSO) cases on Tuesday. The accused was sentenced to undergo 20 years imprisonment. The court directed to pay Two lakh compensation to the victim’s family.
According to the police, the accused Mohd. Saleem, a 45-year-old auto driver, used to live in the neighborhood where the victim also resided in 2021. While the victim was alone the accused took her to the terrace forcefully and violated her. Later threatened the victim not to disclose about the abuse to anyone. However the victim who could not bear the pain started crying. Subsequently her mother noticed her and confronted her, then the victim revelaed about the sexual abuse to the mother. “Following which the victim’s mother took her to Madannapet police station of Hyderabad commissionerate and lodged a formal complaint with the police. The police booked a case and shifted her to Bharosa center for statement recording under 161 Cr.PC. Medical evidence was also collected in the Bharosa Center”, said Hyderabad police.
Madannapet Police booked a case under sections of 363(Punishment for Kidnapping), 376(Punishment for sexual assault) of Indian Penal code(IPC) and relevant section of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act of 2012 and investigation was conducted by SVN Shivaram Sharma, ACP, Santoshnagar Division.
“After thorough enquiry, a charge sheet was filed. The Bharosa Centre has facilitated the victim and her family in counseling, medical support, legal support, financial support, submission of documents for compensations, apart from home visit by Bharosa staff,” said Hyderabad police in an official statement.

Further Hyderabad police added the statement recording, court briefing, court trials and mock court trials were done by the admin, counselor and support person, so that the victim feels more comfortable while facing the judge.
After the trial, P. Pushpa Latha, Special Sessions Judge for POCSO, HACA Bhavan, Nampally, Hyderabad found the accused guilty of the crime. Further sentenced the accused to undergo rigorous imprisonment for 20 years and to pay a fine of 5000. Further also granted Rs. 2,00,000 compensation to the victim girl.
