Hyderabad: Telangana’s famed Pochampalli handlooms will be in the spotlight during the upcoming Miss World Festival, scheduled for May 15, 2025. Tourism Secretary Smita Sabharwal, IAS, visited Pochampalli on Tuesday, April 16, 2025, to review preparations for the event.

The visit underlined the state’s focus on promoting its handloom heritage and cultural traditions to a global audience. As part of the festival, Miss World contestants from around the world will take part in an immersive tour of Pochampalli. They will witness the weaving process and learn about the region’s centuries-old textile traditions, known for their intricate patterns and sustainable techniques.

A fashion show featuring garments made from Telangana’s signature handlooms will be the central event, combining traditional craftsmanship with modern design. The program will also include performances of Telangana’s folk arts, such as Chindu Yakshaganam, Metal Kennera, and Rinja music, offering visitors an insight into the state’s cultural diversity.

“We are pleased to welcome the Miss World contestants to Telangana and present our handloom legacy on a global platform,” said Smita Sabharwal. “This is an opportunity to celebrate the skills of our artisans and the traditions that shape our cultural identity.”
