Kishan Reddy said the terminal will cater to the needs of the eastern part of the city and reduce congestion at Hyderabad, Secunderabad, and Kacheguda railway stations. It will also enable passengers to easily interchange between long-distance trains and MMTS trains.
It is expected to handle around 25 pairs of trains daily. Additionally, the terminal will double up as a hub for goods trains which will boost Hyderabad’s industrial development. Charlapalli area, which is experiencing rapid development, is situated near the Outer Ring Road.
The terminal built with an estimated cost of Rs. 430-crore in Medchal-Malkajgiri district has 10 new railway lines with a total 19 line capacity and four new platforms. The new satellite terminal has facilities like a large circulating area with adequate parking facilities, 5 lifts and 5 escalators connecting all platforms, parcel booking facilities and all modern passenger amenities.
The trains in the Hyderabad – Secunderabad twin city region are mainly served by three main terminals: Secunderabad, Hyderabad and Kacheguda. Charlapalli Railway Station on the eastern part (Lingampalli on the western part is being developed as another terminal station) will meet the growing needs of the city. The Charlapalli Railway Station also comes under MMTS Phase – II project.
Charlapalli is strategically located on the eastern side of Hyderabad, an area experiencing rapid development, and near the Outer Ring Road. The station was identified for development as a terminal station to reduce congestion on other existing rail terminals in the twin city region and serve passengers on the eastern part of the city.
