Telangana Gig Workers Call Statewide Strike, Ola Uber Services to Be Hit
HYDERABAD: Gig and platform workers will stage a statewide breakdown strike on Wednesday. They will suspend services during peak hours to demand long-pending worker welfare measures and regulations for the sector.
Trade unions have backed the protest. Workers want the government to immediately form a welfare board, revise rate cards, introduce aggregator guidelines and implement provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.
Workers warn of indefinite strike after August 8
Union leaders said they launched the strike to highlight issues that the government and platform companies have ignored for years. They warned that workers would begin an indefinite strike after August 8 if authorities failed to address their demands.
Workers apologise to customers
The organisers apologised to customers for the inconvenience. They said app-based cab drivers, auto-rickshaw drivers, goods transporters and delivery workers had no other option after repeated appeals failed to bring results.
The protest represents workers associated with digital platforms, including Ola, Uber, Rapido, Swiggy, Zomato, Zepto, Blinkit, Porter and several other app-based services.
