Monkey and dog menace at Petlaburj hospital in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: Patients and attendants at the Petlaburj Government Maternity Hospital near Charminar have raised concerns over a growing menace from monkeys and stray dogs in the premises.
Locals said the hospital’s proximity to the Musi River and dense tree cover has been attracting groups of monkeys. They added that the hospital’s rear windows lack protective glass, allowing animals to enter the wards easily.
On Friday, staff from the Charminar veterinary section captured a monkey that had strayed into the hospital and took it away. However, several others continue to roam in the area, posing a nuisance to patients.
Stray dogs have also been frequently spotted in the hospital compound, particularly near the main gate, causing fear among visitors.
Hospital superintendent Dr Jaya said the management had earlier got stray dogs removed, but new packs have since entered the premises. “We have also complained about monkeys recently,” she said.
Charminar Circle veterinary officer Dr Sreekanth said traps had been set up following the complaint. “One monkey was caught on Friday. The others will also be captured and handed over to the Forest Department,” he added.
He urged the public to call 040-21111111 to report any monkey or dog menace in the area.
