PETA India Hosts “Meat Is Murder” Protest in Banjara Hills

Banjara Hills: On the occasion of World Vegetarian Day, PETA India supporters gathered on October 1, 2024, at KBR Park in Banjara Hills to protest against meat consumption and raise awareness for veganism. Peta India supporters mimicked frozen meat by lying on large trays wrapped in cellophane, resembling packages of meat, while others held signs proclaiming, “Meat Is Murder,” urging passersby to reconsider their dietary choices.

PETA India aims to highlight that all animals, including humans, experience pain and a range of emotions. “Eating flesh means consuming the corpse of an animal who was tortured and didn’t want to die,” said Utkarsh Garg, PETA India’s Campaigns Coordinator. “The best way to spare animals a miserable life and a terrifying death is to choose healthy, tasty vegan meals.”

The organisation points out that its motto, “Animals are not ours to eat,” highlights the suffering endured by animals raised for food. PETA India’s widely publicised video expose, Glass Walls, illustrates the horrific conditions faced by animals in factory farms. The footage shows overcrowded sheds filled with chickens, where the stench of ammonia permeates the air. Many animals endure severe physical trauma during transportation to slaughterhouses, where they are often subjected to inhumane killing methods.

According to Peta India, each person who adopts a vegan diet spares nearly 200 animals annually from immense suffering and a frightening death. Additionally, raising animals for food is a major contributor to water pollution and land degradation. A United Nations report has called for a global shift towards vegan eating to mitigate the most severe effects of climate change.

PETA India also opposes speciesism, a worldview that prioritises human needs over those of other species. For more information, visit PETAIndia.com or follow the organisation on social media platforms like X, Facebook, and Instagram.
