Pet Basheerabad police bust vehicle theft gang, recover 21 motorcycles
HYDERABAD: Pet Basheerabad police arrested three alleged members of a gang involved in a series of motorcycle thefts across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh and recovered 21 motorcycles, police said.
The three were apprehended near Apparel Park at Maisammaguda. Police also seized a Suzuki Ertiga, bearing registration number TS 04 EY 8122, three mobile phones and tools allegedly used in the thefts.
Gang allegedly travelled by car to steal parked motorcycles
Police identified the arrested accused as Bouri Ashok Singh, 19, a resident of Yellammabanda in Kukatpally and a native of Kazipet in Warangal; Ayalpuram Raghupathi alias Raghu, 22, a resident of Vantimamidi in Mulugu, Siddipet district, and a native of Peddapalli district; and Bandi Praneeth alias Sonu, 23, of Bollaram village in Mulugu mandal, Siddipet district.
According to police, Ashok Singh was previously involved in three cases registered at Nagole, Sultan Bazaar and Kazipet Railway police stations. Raghupathi was previously involved in four cases registered at Godavarikhani I Town, Mancherial Town, Peddapalli Town and Kothagudem III Town police stations.
Praneeth was previously involved in three cases registered at Shamirpet, Genome Valley and Mulugu police stations, police said.
Police said Chaitanya alias Sunny of Peddapalli and Suresh were on the run. Two children in conflict with law were also listed in the case, but their identities were withheld.
According to the press note, the accused knew one another and formed a gang to steal motorcycles in Telangana and neighbouring Andhra Pradesh. They allegedly travelled to targeted locations in a car, stole parked motorcycles and fled.
Police said the gang had so far been linked to the theft of 21 motorcycles. During questioning, the accused allegedly confessed to involvement in 19 cases.
Six Pet Basheerabad cases among offences under investigation
The arrested accused were booked in six cases registered at Pet Basheerabad police station crime numbers 443/2026, 842/2026, 957/2026, 931/2026, 946/2026 and 969/2026 under Section 305(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Police recovered 21 motorcycles and seized the Ertiga, three mobile phones, two screwdrivers, five electrical switches, two cutters and two master keys.
Special teams were formed to investigate the series of vehicle thefts reported within Pet Basheerabad police station limits. The operation was carried out under the guidance of additional deputy commissioner of police Purushotham and the supervision of Medchal division assistant commissioner of police Ch Shankar Reddy.
Police said the teams analysed CCTV footage and gathered local intelligence to identify and track the suspects. The three accused were apprehended near Apparel Park at Maisammaguda and questioned.
Police said the arrested accused were being produced before a court for judicial remand. Senior officers appreciated the Pet Basheerabad police teams involved in detecting the cases and said their work would be suitably rewarded.
