Khammam: A school bus carrying students overturned into a canal near Ganeshpadu village in Penuballi mandal of Khammam district on Tuesday, leaving about 40 students injured.

Bus loses control near village outskirts

The bus, operated by a private school, was travelling from Moddulagudem village in Vemsuru mandal with nearly 100 students onboard. It was headed towards Ganeshpadu, LS Banjara, KM Banjara, Marlakunta and Muttagudem villages.

Locals said the driver was speeding as the vehicle approached the outskirts of Ganeshpadu village, lost control and the bus toppled into a canal.

Students shifted to private hospitals

The injured students were rescued by parents and police personnel from VM Banjara police station and shifted to private hospitals in Penuballi and Tiruvuru in neighbouring NTR district of Andhra Pradesh.

Police said further details were awaited.
