Villagers and police rescue men from flooded Maneru stream in Peddapalli

PEDDAPALLI: Ten people were rescued by locals after being trapped in the swollen Maneru stream at Gattepalli village in Sultanabad mandal on Wednesday morning.

Police said the group, all from Gattepalli, had gone to the stream in five tractors to collect sand. As they were loading sand, the water level rose suddenly, stranding them in the middle of the stream along with the tractors.

Hearing their cries for help, villagers rushed to the spot and managed to pull them out using ropes. Sultanabad police also reached the spot and ensured the tractors and all 10 men were brought to safety.

No casualties were reported. “Everyone heaved a sigh of relief as no lives were lost,” police said. Authorities cautioned locals not to enter the Maneru stream, which is in heavy spate.
