Hyderabad police invoke PD Act against ‘ganja don’ Angoori Bai

She has been arrested multiple times and has 30 cases registered against her across various police stations.
PD Act invoked against Angoori Bai

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad police have invoked Preventive Detention (PD) Act against Angoori Bai, also known as ‘ganja don’ in the Dhoolpet area.

Previously, Angoori Bai had been arrested multiple times and every time she managed to secure bail and resumed her illegal activities after her release from custody. She is currently lodged in Chanchalguda jail.

Acting on a request from the Excise Department, the Hyderabad Collector Anudeep Durisetty issued PD Act orders against the lady ganja don. Dhoolpet Circle Inspector Madhu Babu handed over the PD Act orders to the inmate in the central prison on Tuesday.
Director of Prohibition and Excise Department, VB Kamalasan Reddy, had instructed the officials to take stringent action against her as she continued her illegal activities despite multiple arrests.

Following the order, Excise Assistant Commissioner Anil Kumar Reddy and Dhoolpet STF Excise Superintendent Anji Reddy submitted a proposal for invoking the PD Act against her. After reviewing their recommendation, the Collector issued necessary orders.

According to Excise officials, the PD Act was necessary to curb the spread of ganja distribution in the city. The latest detention is to prevent Angoori Bai from resuming her drug business.

In December 2024, Angoori Bai was arrested by the Prohibition and Excise Department as she was booked in several ganja-related cases in the city. Prior to this, she escaped the arrest. Later, the police stepped up surveillance and succeeded in nabbing her.

She has reportedly made a fortune by allegedly smuggling and selling ganja. Over the years, she has emerged as a key figure in the ganja trade. She has also involved her family members in the business.

A total of 30 cases have been registered against her in connection with ganja trade in Dhoolpet, Mangalhat, Asif Nagar and Gouraram police stations. Out of these, 20 cases are registered in Excise police stations while the remaining 10 in civil police stations.
