Hyderabad: PCB officials measure alarming pollution levels in Sai Anurag Colony

Hyderabad: Following repeated requests from concerned residents of Sai Anurag Colony about the unchecked industrial pollution in the region, the officials of Telangana Pollution Control Board (TGPCB) visited the locality and monitored the air quality in the neighbourhood on Saturday evening.
PCB officer Nagendra, armed with a handheld device for air quality monitoring, went to a location closer to Prabhu Chemicals factory in the locality to measure the pollution level. The handheld device showed a pollution level of 3.468 near the factory.
The PCB official immediately sent the findings to Rangareddy District Executive Engineer Rajendra for further action.
The pollution readings have shocked the residents of the colony. Former corporator Vijayalakshmi Subbarao expressed concern for the locals’ public health and demanded that the concerned authorities take strict action against the industrial unit. She also urged the PCB officials to revoke the factory’s license in order to protect the colony residents from toxic emissions from the factory.
The incident at Prabhu Chemicals is not an isolated case, as residents from other nearby areas including Bachupally, Nizampet, and Pragati Nagar have also been raising similar concerns.
Recently, they staged a protest against these factories and demanded immediate action from the PCB officials. Locals complained that the toxic gases from factories in IDA Bollaram, Kazipalli, Bonthapalli, and Jinnaram have made their life miserable. Most people struggle to breathe, especially at night and early morning, according to a local resident.
One of the residents stated that the chemical smell from nearby factories has been leaking heavily for the last few days. This has been a daily issue for the past one or two months, especially at night. The gases are affecting our eyes, causing burning sensations, and it’s becoming difficult to breathe in the polluted air.
