Passport Fees Hiked from July 1: Here’s How Much You Will Pay Now

HYDERABAD: Applying for a passport will become more expensive from July 1 after the Centre revised passport fees under the Passports (Amendment) Rules, 2026.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has increased the fees for fresh passport applications and passport reissues across all major categories, including the Tatkal scheme. The revised charges will come into effect on July 1.
Applicants who submit their passport applications on or before June 30 will continue to pay the existing fees.
Revised passport fees from July 1
A 36-page ordinary passport for a fresh application or reissue will now cost ₹2,500, up from ₹1,500. The fee for a 36-page passport under the Tatkal scheme has been fixed at ₹5,000.
A 60-page ordinary passport will now cost ₹3,500 instead of ₹2,000. Applicants choosing the Tatkal scheme for a 60-page passport will have to pay ₹6,000.
MEA does not explain fee hike
The revised fees apply to both fresh passport applications and passport renewals or reissues. The Ministry of External Affairs issued the notification under the Passports (Amendment) Rules, 2026.
The notification does not mention why the government revised the passport fees. The MEA has advised applicants to check the official Passport Seva portal for the latest fee schedule and application guidelines before applying.
