Begumpet tunnel approved for Paradise-Dairy Farm road elevated corridor project

Hyderabad: Airports Authority of India (AAI) has approved the proposed elevated corridor from Paradise to Dairy Farm Road on NH-44 and also issued necessary clearance for the construction of the tunnel at Begumpet, which is part of this corridor.
Stating that the proposed elevated skyway between Paradise Circle and Suchitra Junction will impact air traffic movement, Begumpet airport authorities had suggested an underpass between Paradise and Tadbund junction.
The entire corridor will span 5.40 kilometers and the underpass (tunnel) will be built at a length of 0.6 kilometers, between Babu Jagjivan Ram Statue and Tadbund junction, which goes below the runway of Begumpet airport.
The skyway project cost is estimated to be 1,500 crore, and it will have a total of 131 piers. The skyway will be made accessible from two ramps at Bowenpally junction.
The elevated skyway is expected to ease traffic congestion, improve connectivity and reduce travel time for the road users on NH-44 and also in the surrounding areas.
Out of the total 5.4 km stretch, 3.05 km will be an elevated corridor. The proposed tunnel is expected to address frequent accidents due to sharp turns near Tadbund junction.
Meanwhile, HMDA is also planning another elevated corridor from Paradise junction (Gymkhana Grounds) to the Shamirpet Outer Ring Road (ORR) junction along State Highway 01. The 11.12 km-long corridor will traverse through Tirumalagiri and Alwal. Approximately 197 acres of land is required for this project, which is aimed at significantly reducing traffic congestion for commuters traveling to northern Telangana towns such as West Marredpally, Karkhana, Tirumulgherry, Bolarum, Alwal, Hakimpet and Thumkunta.
