Padma Devender Reddy questions delay in POCSO FIR registration

Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader Padma Devender Reddy on Sunday questioned the delay in registration of a Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act case involving the son of a Union minister and demanded accountability from the authorities.
Addressing a press conference at Telangana Bhavan, she alleged that the handling of the case reflected a failure to ensure timely justice for the minor complainant.
Delay in FIR registration raises questions
Padma Devender Reddy said a minor girl allegedly waited for nearly 13 hours at a police station before an FIR was registered. She questioned the functioning of the police machinery and sought action against officials responsible for the delay.
She also questioned the silence of national political leaders on the issue and said governments must act impartially in cases involving crimes against women and children.
Opposition targets handling of sensitive case
The former Deputy Speaker criticised the State government over the police response and questioned whether proper protection and justice would be ensured for the complainant.
Former Telangana State Public Service Commission member Sumitra Anand alleged that attempts were being made to shield the accused. She demanded action against police personnel at PetBasheerabad police station over the alleged delay in filing the FIR.
She also expressed concern that the case could be weakened if prompt action was not taken.
