Padma Awards 2025: Duvvur Nageshwar Reddy, Manda Krishna Madiga, Nandamuri Balakrishna from Telangana & AP honored

Hyderabad: The Padma Awards, one of India’s highest civilian honors, were announced on January 25, 2025, the occasion of Republic Day 2025. These prestigious awards are conferred in three categories: Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri, recognizing distinguished service in fields such as art, social work, public affairs, science, engineering, medicine, literature, education, sports, and civil service.
This year, the President of India has approved the conferment of 139 Padma Awards, including 7 Padma Vibhushan, 19 Padma Bhushan, and 113 Padma Shri. Among the awardees, 23 are women, 10 are from the Foreigners/NRI/PIO/OCI category, and 13 are posthumous recipients.
Dr. Duvvur Nageshwar Reddy: Padma Vibhushan in Medicine (Telangana)
From Telangana, Dr. Duvvur Nageshwar Reddy has been awarded the Padma Vibhushan in the field of Medicine. Duvvur Nageshwar Reddy is a renowned gastroenterologist and the Chairman of the Asian Institute of Gastroenterology (AIG) and AIG Hospitals in Hyderabad.
He has significantly contributed to therapeutic pancreatobiliary endoscopy and innovations in transgastric endoscopic surgery. Over his career, Duvvur Nageshwar Reddy has published over 670 papers and has been recognized with numerous awards, including the Padma Shri in 2002 and Padma Bhushan in 2016.
Manda Krishna Madiga: Padma Shri in Public Affairs (Telangana)
Manda Krishna Madiga, an activist and politician from Telangana, has been honored with the Padma Shri in the field of Public Affairs. Known for his advocacy for the rights of the Madiga community, he founded the Madiga Reservation Porata Samiti (MRPS) in 1994. He has been a vocal advocate for social justice, including efforts to secure equitable reservation policies and improve the rights of marginalized groups, including children with heart diseases and people with disabilities.
Nandamuri Balakrishna: Padma Bhushan in Art (Andhra Pradesh)
From Andhra Pradesh, actor and politician Nandamuri Balakrishna has received the Padma Bhushan in the field of Art. Known for his work in Telugu cinema, Balakrishna has starred in over 100 films and has achieved significant commercial success with roles in films like Simha (2010), Legend (2014), and Akhanda (2021). Balakrishna is also a member of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly, representing the Hindupur constituency.
The Padma Awards will be conferred by the President of India at a ceremonial function at Rashtrapati Bhawan, typically held in March or April each year.
