Congress Crisis, BJP Speculation: What Muralidhar Rao Says

HYDERABAD: BJP leader P Muralidhar Rao on Sunday rejected speculation that the BJP could become a destination for leaders amid the political crisis in Telangana, saying the party wanted to emerge as a credible alternative to both the Congress and BRS.
Rao questioned the media focus on linking the BJP to every speculative political development at a time when the Congress appeared to be facing an internal crisis.
Rao questions motive behind speculation about BJP
“Why is the media so eager to drag BJP into every speculative political story—just when the Congress crisis appears to be unfolding?” Rao said.
He questioned whether the speculation was aimed at diverting attention from the Congress crisis and preventing the party’s problems from escalating.
“Is this an attempt to prematurely stop the game, divert the narrative, and help Congress nip its troubles in the bud?” he asked.
BJP says it wants to build an alternative
Rao said the BJP Telangana unit and its cadres wanted to build the party as a credible political alternative to both the Congress and BRS.
He said the BJP’s alternative politics would be based on “culture, character and political content” rather than merely accepting leaders dissatisfied with other parties.
“BJP is an alternative—not another name change,” Rao said.
Rejecting the suggestion that the party could become a “BIN”, Rao said, “NO. IT WON’T BE A BIN.”
He also cautioned against accepting the speculation at face value, saying, “Beware of the narrative. There may be more to this speculation than meets the eye.”
