Oxytocin injections seized by Drugs Control Administration in Adilabad

Adilabad: The Drugs Control Administration (DCA), Telangana, in coordination with the Adilabad police, seized a large stock of injections purported to be oxytocin, allegedly intended for misuse in cattle, during a joint operation in Adilabad.

Joint operation by DCA and police

Officials of the DCA, Adilabad Zone, along with the Adilabad police, seized 109 unlabelled transparent PET bottles of 200 ml each on January 22, 2026. The seizure was made from an individual identified as Mautho Aravind Kumar, officials said.

Misuse of oxytocin in livestock flagged

According to the DCA, the injections were illegally stocked for sale and intended for misuse in cattle. Oxytocin is often illegally administered to dairy animals to artificially induce milk let-down and increase milk production. Authorities warned that such unauthorised use could adversely affect animal health and amounts to an offence.

The joint operation was carried out by Drugs Inspector A. Srilatha, Adilabad, along with K. Nagaraju of the II Town Police Station, Adilabad, and their staff. Officials said further investigation was under way and action would be taken against all those involved as per law.

Punishment under Drugs and Cosmetics Act

The DCA said unauthorised stocking and sale of oxytocin injections is punishable under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, with imprisonment of up to five years. The abuse of oxytocin in livestock, particularly for artificially increasing milk production, is a punishable offence.

The public has been urged to report complaints relating to illegal activities involving medicines or suspected drug manufacturing, including narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, to the DCA, Telangana, through its toll-free number 1800-599-6969 between 10.30 am and 5.00 pm on working days.
