Owaisi questions US remarks on India’s Russia oil purchases

HYDERABAD: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi launched a sharp attack on the Union government, questioning recent remarks by a US minister on India’s economic growth and its purchase of oil from Russia.
Speaking at a public event, Owaisi asked why a foreign minister should dictate India’s trade decisions.
“Is India anyone’s slave? Who is an American minister to tell a country of 1.3 billion people what it can or cannot buy?” he said.
Owaisi questions silence of BJP-RSS
Owaisi accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) of remaining silent on the issue.
He alleged that the ruling party had not responded strongly to the remarks due to fear of former US President Donald Trump.
“Why are BJP and RSS silent? Are they afraid of Donald Trump?” Owaisi asked.
Remarks linked to India’s oil trade with Russia
The AIMIM leader’s comments came amid international scrutiny of India’s purchase of discounted crude oil from Russia following Western sanctions on Moscow.
India has repeatedly maintained that its energy purchases are driven by national interest and domestic requirements.
Owaisi said India, as a sovereign nation, should decide its economic and strategic policies independently without external pressure.
