Secretariat vs poor homes: Asaduddin Owaisi puts Congress in catch-22 situation

Hyderabad: As the controversy over the demolition of unauthorized structures in the Musi riverbed rages, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) President Asaduddin Owaisi threw a gauntlet at the Revanth Reddy-led Congress government to make the Hyderabad Disaster Response Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) authorities to focus on government structures built in the Full Tank Level (FTL) region.
Questioning the State government for sparing the Telangana Secretariat, GHMC office and other important structures like Bapu Ghat which lie in FTL areas, Owaisi said if these structures can remain intact then why not extend the same protection to the poor people’s housing units in the riverbed. He made these remarks during a public meeting in Nizamabad on Sunday.
“Those who are talking about FTL must know that the new (Telangana) Secretariat is built near Hussain Sagar’s FTL zone. Also, the samadhis (burial sites) of prominent political leaders such as Bapu Ghat in Langar Houz also lie in the FTL area. When these are allowed, why can’t poor families live there?” Asaduddin Owaisi said.
He also said that the AIMIM party fully supports the implementation of Musi riverfront development project, however, the state government should also take the misery of poor people into consideration who will be rendered homeless after the demolition of their houses in the catchment areas of the river.
Hyderabad MP #AsaduddinOwaisi broke his silence on the demolitions in #MusiRiver, criticizing the #RevanthReddy government for targeting the structures of poor while ignoring the government-owned structures like the new Secretariat which fall in #FullTankLevel zones. #FTL #HYDRAA pic.twitter.com/dItw6TxqEH
