OUTA executive condemns suspension of president, seeks revocation

HYDERABAD: The Executive Committee of the Osmania University Teachers’ Association (OUTA) on January 13, 2026, unanimously condemned the suspension of its president and demanded immediate revocation, calling the action arbitrary and in violation of principles of natural justice.
The resolutions were adopted at an emergency Executive Committee meeting held at the Department of Mathematics, Osmania University, under the extended tenure permitted by Sections 32 and 33 of the Telangana Co-operative Societies Act, 1964.
The committee took serious note of the suspension order issued against Prof. B. Manohar in connection with proceedings of a committee appointed by the vice-chancellor. It said the suspension was imposed without due consideration of the explanation and grievances submitted by the president and the association, rendering it disproportionate and unilateral.
Executive committee to continue under cooperative law provisions
The Executive Committee resolved to demand immediate revocation of the suspension, stating that it undermined democratic functioning of a recognised teachers’ association.
The meeting also resolved that the existing Executive Committee would continue to function until a newly elected body assumes office, in accordance with the OUTA bye-laws and statutory provisions of the Telangana Co-operative Societies Act, 1964, to avoid any administrative vacuum.
Reiterating its position on conduct rules, the committee said the OUTA Executive Committee is exempt from the application of University Conduct Rules while carrying out lawful, democratic and statutory activities, as provided under the university statutes governing registered societies.
The association further resolved that it may undertake peaceful and lawful democratic action to safeguard the interests of aggrieved teachers, ensuring that academic activities and public order are not disrupted.
Taking note of the vice-chancellor-appointed committee that examined the issue, the Executive Committee resolved to seek full adherence to due process, including a fair opportunity of hearing to Prof. Manohar, consideration of his representations, and conduct of proceedings in line with principles of natural justice and university statutes.
Emergency general body meeting fixed for January 20
An Emergency General Body Meeting of OUTA has been convened on January 20, 2026, at 15.00 IST at the Seminar Hall, Principal Office, University College of Science, Osmania University. The election schedule and modalities for electing a new Executive Body will be deliberated at the meeting.
