Schoolchildren protest in Osmannagar over delayed road projects

Listen to Story

Hyderabad: School-going children from various communities in Osmannagar, Tellapur, staged a protest on Sunday, December 29, 2024, demanding the completion of vital roads that have been inordinately delayed. The children carried placards and raised slogans urging government authorities to complete the missing link road (Number 152) connecting Vattinagulapalle to Osmannagar.

Despite the project being initiated over three years ago, the road remains incomplete, and its current state, marked by potholes has become a nightmare for the numerous school buses transporting children from Osmannagar.

Over 60 children from communities such as Mupla Indraprastha, Sanctia, and others participated in the rally, drawing attention to the poor condition of the incomplete road. The protest attracted the attention of passersby who expressed sympathy for the children’s plight.

The residents and children highlighted the difficulties caused by the lack of infrastructure, with many children unable to attend school due to the damaged roads.

Another road connecting Sanctia Villas to the Blue Block School in Osmannagar also needs completion. Despite the sitting MLA of Patancheru, Gudem Mahipal Reddy, laying the foundation stone for this road before the Assembly elections, the roadwork has yet to commence.

The residents of various communities in Osmannagar, along with the schoolchildren, have appealed to the concerned government authorities and the Commissioner of Tellapur Municipality to take immediate action for the completion of these roads. The Tellapur Neighborhood Association (TeNA) has also joined the call for urgent intervention.

Speaking to Hyderabad Mail, Ramana Eshwaragari, President of the Tellapur Neighborhood Association (TeNA), said, “The Missing Link Road No. 152, which connects Vattinagulapally to Osmannagar, was started three years ago but remains incomplete. The communities in Osmannagar are facing immense hardship as there are only three roads leading to the area, and all of them are in bad shape.”

He further added, “One is the Missing Link Road No. 152, another is the Goppanpally to Osmannagar road, and the third is the Tellapur to Osmannagar road. None of these roads are motorable, and school buses have had to stop their services, leaving children and parents in distress.”

Ramana Eshwaragari further added, “Another serious issue is the lack of street lights. The residents are afraid to venture out after 6 p.m. due to security concerns. We are requesting the authorities to urgently address these problems.”
