Osmania University students protest over hostel row

HYDERABAD: Tension prevailed at Osmania University campus in Hyderabad after hostel staff allegedly asked a woman to leave the premises at night when she came to visit her daughter.
Students staged a protest against the hostel administration, accusing it of acting without consideration.
Mother denied stay despite late hour
The woman had come to the Osmania University hostel to meet her daughter. As it was late by the time her work was completed, she requested the staff to allow her to stay for the night and leave the next morning.
However, the hostel administration refused permission. “You cannot stay here… you must leave immediately,” staff reportedly told her in front of others.
Despite the student pleading that her mother could not travel alone at night, the staff allegedly tried to send her out.
Students demand action against officials
After learning about the incident, hostel students gathered and staged a sit-in protest on the road, questioning how they could stay in a place that did not respect their parents.
They demanded immediate action against the officials responsible and called for an end to harassment of women in the name of hostel rules.
The protest, which began on Wednesday night, continued into Thursday morning. Students from other hostels and leaders of student unions extended support.
With the situation turning tense, police were deployed on the campus and security was stepped up.
