Osmania University acts against Hindi Mahavidyalaya College for academic misconduct

Hyderabad: Osmania University (OU) has imposed severe penalties on Hindi Mahavidyalaya Degree College for serious violations, including the forging of academic records and misreporting student results. After multiple inquiries by standing committees, the university has cancelled the college’s provisional affiliation and recommended to the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE) that its autonomous status be revoked.

The investigation revealed that during the 2019-2022 academic years, the college manipulated results for the UG sixth-semester exams, falsely declaring 49 failing students as passed and misreporting the results of five students who had actually passed as failed. Concerned by inconsistencies in the Tabulation Records (TR), Osmania University ordered a thorough inquiry into the matter.

The committee, which visited the college three times, uncovered shocking irregularities. It was found that Commerce papers were evaluated by unqualified Computer Science faculty, and marks lists were forged. Additionally, the college failed to submit essential documents, including examination papers, evaluation records, and notifications for advanced supplementary exams.

Further investigation revealed that the TR records for the UG 2023-2024 batch were missing critical signatures and stamps from the Principal and the Controller of Examinations. The standing committees confirmed that the Additional Controller of Examinations’ signature was forged, and there were discrepancies in the results submitted to the university.

Specifically, the college misreported the results of 13 B.Com, 27 B.Sc., and 9 BBA students who had actually failed, while four B.Com and one BBA student who had genuinely passed were shown as failed.

While the college administration admitted to the errors, it failed to take corrective actions or provide satisfactory explanations. Despite repeated warnings, the institution continued its misconduct. As a result, the Standing Committee has recommended the seizure of relevant records and the initiation of criminal cases against those responsible for forging the Additional Controller’s signature.

In response to the violations, Osmania University has decided to allow current students to complete their courses under its direct supervision. However, the college has been instructed to cease UG admissions from the 2025-2026 academic year, with only PG courses to continue under a non-autonomous status. Final semester exams will now be conducted directly by the university.

This action highlighted Osmania University’s zero-tolerance policy toward academic misconduct. “Affiliated and autonomous institutions must strictly adhere to university and UGC regulations. There is no room for compromise when it comes to academic standards, transparency, and compliance,” said Prof. Kumar Molugaram, Vice-Chancellor of Osmania University.
