Hyderabad: In a significant achievement for the Telugu film industry, three films have been officially submitted as India’s entries at the 2024 Oscar Awards. The films Hanuman, Kalki 2898 AD, and Mangalavaram are among 29 films from various Indian languages submitted for consideration.

The Film Federation of India released the Oscar entry list, showcasing a diverse representation from different regional cinema:

Telugu: 3 films
Tamil: 6 films
Malayalam: 4 films
Odia: 1 film
Hindi: 12 films
Marathi: 3 films

Film highlights:

Hanu-Man: Directed by Prasanth Varma, Hanu-Man is a superhero film featuring Teja Sajja in the title role. Set in the fictional village of Anjanadri, the narrative follows Hanumanthu, who gains the powers of Lord Hanuman to protect his village. Released on January 12, 2024, during Sankranti, the film received critical acclaim for its direction, performances, and visual effects, grossing over Rs. 350 crores globally.

Kalki 2898 AD: Directed by Nag Ashwin, this epic science fiction film features a star-studded cast including Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, and Disha Patani. Set in a post-apocalyptic future, it follows a mission to save an unborn child. Released on June 27, 2024, Kalki 2898 AD is notable for being the most expensive Indian film ever made, with an estimated production budget of Rs. 600 crores. It has already set multiple box office records, grossing over Rs. 1,000 crores.

Mangalavaram: This erotic psychological thriller, directed by Ajay Bhupathi, features an ensemble cast including Payal Rajput and Nandita Swetha. Released on November 17, 2023, the film has garnered attention for its intriguing storyline and strong performances.

In addition to these Telugu films, the following entries have also been submitted for the Oscars 2024:

• Hindi: Laapataa Ladies, Chhota Bheem and The Curse of Damyaan, Good Luck, Article 370, Kill, Animal, Srikanth, Chandu Champion, Swatantrya Veer Savarkar, Joram, Maidaan, Sam Bahadur.
• Marathi: Gharat Ganpati, Swaragandharva Sudhir Phadke, Ghaath.
• Malayalam: All We Imagine as Light, Aaattam, Ullozhukku, Aadujeevitham.
• Tamil: Kottukkaali, Maharaja, Jigarthanda Double X, Thangalaan, Jama, Vaazhai.
• Odia: Aabha.
